Creating a Sacred Space for Healing

Starting a grief counseling practice was not just a professional decision—it was deeply personal. Over the years, I have witnessed how loss changes people’s worlds in ways big and small, and I have come to believe in the power of compassionate support to help individuals navigate heartbreak, confusion, and the long journey toward healing. I have a desire to extend my reach into our communities to walk alongside those experiencing any loss.
My interest in grief counseling, especially narrative therapy, began from a profound desire to help mothers coping with the unimaginable pain of losing a child. Their courage and resilience inspired me. I saw firsthand how, through sharing their stories and memories, people could find meaning and reconnect with hope in the darkest moments. I witnessed the power of storytelling while completing my dissertation in PhD school. Narratives, in particular, drew me in—the idea that our stories matter, and that in telling them, we can weave new threads of support and understanding.
When creating my practice, I wanted to approach grief counseling not just as a set of clinical skills, but as an act of empathy and partnership. My work extends beyond physical loss. It includes walking alongside those who have suffered any type of loss. Every loss is different, and so is every journey through grief. My decision to open this practice comes from the belief that there isn’t a single path to healing—there are many. By creating a grief counseling space, I hope to honor those paths, to listen deeply, and to empower people to keep moving forward, one step at a time, in the company of care.
Starting this practice is more than a vocation—it is my way of ensuring that no one has to face grief alone.
With caring thoughts,
Mandy
